The Swedish National Hip Arthroplasty Register was started in 1979 and is administered by the Orthopaedic Department of Sahlgrenska University Gothenburg.
This register is in a leading position in the development of the register documentation systems and its organisation, which is a very sensible procedure between maximum gain of information and acceptable burden for the partner in the departments.
One remarkable characteristic from the early stages in development was a strong communication network.
The reporting system to the departments, the orthopaedic community and the public is an outstanding example for efficiency.
80 hospitals are reporting to the Swedish Hip Arthroplasty Register
About 12.000 Hip Replacements are registered by year.
The Swedish Hip Arthroplasty is the most noticed National Arthroplasty Register. The efforts by this group to demonstrate the potential benefits by register documentations for the assessment of implants, the reduction of revisions and cost efficiency of implant registers for the health systems are outstanding.
