The Romanian Arthroplasty Register was founded in October 2001 in cooperation between the Romanian Orthopaedic society (SOROT) the Ministry of Health and Family and the National house of health Insurance.
The Register is located in Foisor Hospital, Bucharest.
Starting with hip arthroplasty in 2003 knee implants were included. In 2003 segmentary spine implants were recorded the first time too.
77 orthopaedic and trauma hospitals are reporting to the Romanian Arthroplasty Register.
About 6.000 hip replacements, 400 knee replacements and a small number of shoulder and ankle replacements are registered a year.
The development of the Romanian Register in 9 months from the decision by SOROT, by complete set up of the organisation, development of a data collection system from the bottom line, negotiations with the public health system, a regional test phase in Bucharest to national data collection was a tremendous success under not very easy general circumstances.
The public health systems honoured the quality of this documentation system by the order to register contents out of the arthroplasty issue.
By this reason also economical data or epidemiological data for fractures, tumour or other important fields of interest are covered by the National Arthroplasty Register (RNE).
Some of these information are published in the section "General Information about Arthroplasty", which is updated in daily periods.
RNE invented a form to include early septic revisions without removal of parts of the implant.
The technical staff of RNE is high standard and very innovative. It is included in the organisation to define the evaluations based on multinational datasets and other EFORT IT-projects.
