The Swedish Knee Arthroplasty Register was founded 1975 by the members of the Swedish Orthopaedic Society. It was the first nation wide multi-centre study witch grew to a National Arthroplasty Register.
It is administered by the Orthopaedic Department of the University Hospital - Lund.
80 departments are reporting to the Register Centre.
About 7.300 primary total knee replacements, 1000 unicondylar knee replacements are registered by year.
The Swedish knee arthroplasty register is one of the largest datasets about knee arthroplasty worldwide.
Some important modifications in surgical techniques in knee arthroplasty like the use of cement of the resurfacing of the patella can be monitored by this dataset.
A large number of scientific presentations and thesis are published by this register, most of the abstracts are linked in the publication list.
Some thesis are available full text online. They are very interesting basic statements about the handling and evaluation of register data.
