The New Zealand Joint Register was founded in April 1998 by New Zealand Orthopaedic Association.
The register is managed by the orthopaedic Department of the Christchurch Hospital and collects data about hip, knee, shoulder, elbow, and ankle joint replacements.
All hospitals performing orthopaedic surgery in New Zealand contribute to this register.
Each year about 5500 hip replacements, about 3900 knee replacements, 230 shoulder replacements and about 30 ankle- and elbow replacements are registered.
The New Zealand Register offer an online tool for clinical data questionnaires, which can be handled by the patients autonomously.
