Visiting Fellowship Programme

Aims of the Visiting Fellowship Programme

EFORT, the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology aims to support and unify orthopaedic scientific education and practical orthopaedic training in the member countries.

The EFORT Visiting Fellowship allows young and active orthopaedic European colleagues from different countries to spend, after finishing the orthopaedic training, a period of 2 - 4 weeks in a clinic, department or institution of their own choice in another European country. The age limit for the participants is 40 years.

This Fellowship should allow the Fellows to learn about new techniques in practical orthopaedics, in orthopaedic science and departmental organisation. In addition these Fellowships should spread new ideas about local traditions, the social system and culture of the host countries.

Personal understanding and friendship will improve following collaboration. Also, new links are developed and the unity of European countries is promoted.

Rules of the Visiting Fellowship Programme

The EFORT Visiting Fellowship should be offered yearly to one fellow of every national member association of EFORT.

Selection of Fellows

The Fellows have the possibility to choose an orthopaedic host institution for a 4 weeks stay. Each of these Fellowships is sponsored by € 1’000 to cover partly travelling, housing and feeding expenses.

The selection of these Fellows should be done by the National Society nominating the candidate to the EFORT Executive Committee together with his choice of the host institution and a proposed programme for the visit. EFORT will help only with the organisation of the general agreement between host and the Fellow. All details should be organised directly between the host institution and the EFORT Visiting Fellow.

Every Fellow should be able to give one or more lectures in his own field of clinical or experimental research in orthopaedics to the colleagues of the host institution. Thus, there will be a real exchange of knowledge and information between both parties. A report of the visit should be send to EFORT within one month after the end of the visit.
