The Langenbeck-Vichow-Haus was built between 1913 and 1915 for medical education purposes. For years it has been hosting congresses and meetings of many German medical societies.
At the beginning of the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) in 1949, it became the building of the Parliament (Volkskammer). The first president of the GDR (Wilhem Pieck) was elected here.
After the political change, the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus was given back to the German surgical society in 2003, after hard negotiations. During the years 2004-2005 the house was totally restored also thanks to the support of Aesculap/B.Braun.
Since the reopening in 2005 the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus is “home” of about 20 medical societies and national and international centre for medical education.

How to get to Langenbeck-Vichow-Haus
From the airport:
If arriving at Tegel airport take the bus TXL to Karlplatz. From this bus stop the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus can be reached in 3 minutes walking (follow the signs indicating the Charité-Campus). Alternatively, take the line 147 (Karlsplatz bus stop - opposite side) for one stop to the “Charité-Campus Mitte”. This bus stops directly in front of the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus.
If arriving at Schönefeld airport take the underground (U-Bahn) to “Friedrichstraße”; here take the Bus 147 (towards Leopoldplatz) until “Charité-Campus Mitte” bus stop, just in front of Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus.

Arriving by train
If arriving at Berlin Hauptbahnhof (main railway station) take the Bus 147 (towards “Puschkinallee”) and get off at “Luisenstrasse/Charité”, in front of Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus.
If arriving at Berlin Ostbahnhof take the S-Bahn (suburban train) towards “Friedrichstrasse” and change here for Bus 147 (towards “Leopoldplatz”); get off at “Charité-Campus Mitte”, just in front of Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus.

- A 11 from Prenzlau
- Motorway intersection Schwanebeck: follow A 10 towards Hamburg, Potsdam
- Take exit Berlin-Weißensee and change from A10 to B2 in direction of Weißensee
- After 300 m follow B2 towards Hamburg
- Turn right on B2 in direction of Lindenberg
- After 14 km turn right into Mollstr.
- Passing Torstr./Hannoversche str.
- Turn left into Luisenstr. 58/59 (Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus)

- Exit at Kaiserdamm heading east (direction Tiergarten/Mitte)
- Via Knobelsdorffstraße in direction of Kaiserdamm, Straße des 17. Juni to Brandenburger Tor
- A Brandenburger Tor turn right into Dorotheenstr.
- After 250 m turn left into Wilhelmstr. until you reach Luisenstr. 58/59 (Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus)
