The Scientific Committee, chaired by Prof. Karl-Göran Thorngren (S), just met in Portugal in December. During one week, the committee reviewed the amazing number of 3’870 submitted abstracts and has drafted the preliminary scientific programme.

Prof. Roger Lemaire (B), EFORT’s Chairman of Editorial, is working with a panel of dedicated European leaders in orthopaedic surgery on the Instructional Course Lectures Book, volume 7. The ICL book contains 22 full texts of Instructional Courses which will be given during the upcoming biennal EFORT congress in Lisbon.

In close collaboration with the Scientific Committee and the JBJS this is truly an art piece for every orthopaedic surgeon!

Bye bye Prof. Pavel Dungl, welcome Prof. Miklos Szendroi


During the General Assembly held in Groningen in September 2004, the EFORT Delegates have elected Prof. Miklos Szendroi from Hungary. He is successing Prof. Pavel Dungl from the Czech Republic on the Executive Committe of EFORT.

Prof. Dungl has been on the board of EFORT for many years. He has contributed massively to the personal development of young European surgeons and has always been a good chap to his colleagues. On behalf of the EFORT President, Prof. George Bentley, please accept, dear Pavel our gratefulness and thank for your dedication during the last couple of years! We wish you all the best and a lot of success for your current presidency of EPOS. Read the interview with Prof. Dungl in the March EFORT Newsletter!

At the same time, the EFORT President and the Executive Committee members welcome Prof. Miklos Szendroi on their board. Miklos Szendroi is especially skilled on the implantation of hip and knee total endoprothesis Surgical treatment of primary bone tumours, tumour-like lesions, soft-tissue tumours, bone metastases. As the Past President of the Hungarian Association and EFORT Delegate he was awarded with many prices. He was awarded with the "Dollinger Award" by the Hungarian Orthopaedic in 2004. He chairs the Advisory Board of Orthopaedics of the Hungarian Ministry of Health.


Call for applications to host the EFORT congress in 2009

The General Secretary, Prof. Frantz Langlais (F), has invited all National Society Presidents, General Secretaries and EFORT Delegates to apply to host the 9th EFORT congress in their country in 2009. The deadline for applicants was set for Saturday, 22 January 2005. 7 countries have applied! The Executive Committee is going to review the full applications during their upcoming meeting on 5 February 2005 and will be recommending the applicants to the General Assembly. The final decision will be taken by the EFORT Delegates in Lisbon.

EFORT Travelling Fellowship - IRELAND, June 2005

An inivtation to nominate candidates for the upcoming EFORT Travelling Fellowship in Spring 2005 was released to all National Presidents. The nomination deadline for young orthopaedic surgeons is set for 1 April 2005. The Travelling Fellowship will take place in Dublin, Ireland on 12-18 June 2005.
