Dear Congress Participant,
Dear Accompanying Person,

Florence has always been one of those cities that everyone would like to visit at least once in their life!

The EFORT Executive Committee and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of SIOT did invite you to participate in the 8th EFORT Congress in Florence from 11 to 15 May 2007.
You followed this Invitation in submitting 4’219 Abstracts.

The scientific programme includes symposia and instructional course lectures delivered by distinguished speakers form all across Europe, specialty sessions on topical subjects, free papers, posters, workshops, industry symposia and technical exhibits. We have broadened our focus to include a greater variety of topics within the programme. Along with the exhibition, this congress format will cover the whole range of contemporary orthopaedics and traumatology in Europe.

It is to the benefit of all of us and especially to the benefit of our patients also to think about the basics of our profession and so the basics of our daily activities in hospitals and private Praxis. The Opening Ceremony is focussing on this idea. We will all meet in a unique situation of the congress opening in one of the most remarkable churches of the world – the Cathedral Dome of Florence.
The congress will take place at the centrally located “Fortezza da Basso”, a fortress built by Alessandro de’ Medici between 1533 and 1535. The massive fortress, today Florence’s largest historical monument, is known as a venue for conventions and events.

Our Local Organising Committee has put together a complete social programme to provide you not only with high-class entertainment but also with some profound insight into the unique history and culture of Italy. It is estimated that 40 percent of the world’s most important artworks are in Italy, of which 30 percent are located in Florence. Situated in the heart of Italy, surrounded by the winegrowing hills of Chianti, the city enchants visitors with its timeless charm. It is a marvellous open-air museum where magnificent Italian Renaissance masterpieces can be discovered at every turn.

Happy to see you as a Member of the European Orthopaedic Family in Florence.
Enlarge your knowledge and experiences – be part of the discussions – have a good time!
