Passing of Professor Frantz Langlais
 |
The President and Executive Committee of EFORT heard with deep regret of the untimely death of Professor Frantz Langlais on the 15th of June. Frantz joined the EFORT Executive Committee as the French National Delegate in succession to Professor Jacques Duparc, the first President.
From the beginning it was apparent that he had an excellent background with a reputation as a first-class Academic Orthopaedic Surgeon, Teacher and Researcher as Head of the University Unit in Rennes.
He quickly showed a unique ability to view matters in their entirety and then to express his views lucidly. He always spoke quietly with conviction and without compromise or fear and, above all, without rancour. We all benefited greatly from his wisdom.

Presidential Message

Dear Member of the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology,
This is a message to all not present at the 8th EFORT Congress in Florence for information and all those participating at the Congress for remembrance.
The 8th EFORT Congress in Florence was a success in all aspects. More than 7.000 participants came to listen to free paper sessions, symposia, instructional courses and cross fires, industry symposia and poster sessions. Knowledge was exchanged and discussed, the scientific level was on an excellent level.
The Opening Ceremony of the Congress took place in one of the most prestigious buildings of the world, the Dome of Florence. The Dome was filled by orthopaedic surgeons from all over Europe and guests from all continents. Past Presidents, Prof. Jacques Duparc, Prof. Michael Freeman, Prof. Erwin Morscher, Prof. Paolo Gallinaro, Prof. Nikolaus Böhler and Prof. George Bentley, were honoured with the Past President's Medal and the Honorary Fellowship Award. The Honorary Fellowship Award was also given to Prof. Egon Lavelle from Ireland for his outstanding contribution the evolution of EFORT as Secretary General over years and to Prof. Pierre-Paul Casteleyn from Brussels for his powerful activities in the preparation of the EFORT Congress in Brussels, which in reality was the really first EFORT Congress, while earlier congresses have been more combined activities of National Societies and EFORT. Klaus Hug, the Business Advisor of EFORT, was honoured with the EFORT Award in recognition of his exceptional service to EFORT. The industry award was with thanks given to Stryker, Zimmer and Samo Company as well as Merck, Sharp & Dome to thank and to honour their contributions to this big and great congress.

Bulgarian Orthopaedics and Traumatology Association
Dear colleagues and friends,
For me it is a great pleasure and honor to present Bulgarian Orthopaedic and Traumatology Association (BOTA) to your attention. The foundation of BOTA in 1955 is credited to the “Godfather” of Bulgarian orthopaedic surgery Prof. Boycho Boychev. Since then its aim is to develop the orthopaedic and traumatology in Bulgaria, to encourage and support the education in its field, to cooperate for the exchange of professional experience and ideas between more than 380 regular members.
