Prof. Karl-Göran Thorngren

Dear Colleagues,

Judging by the large number of abstracts submitted to our EFORT congresses, European orthopaedic surgeons obviously feel the need for a general platform to present their work. Thus, the General Assembly has decided that from 2008 onwards, EFORT will hold yearly congresses. This will give national associations and specialist organisations a European forum where we can all meet at the same time and share our experience with a larger audience. The even year congresses will be combined with a special national association event. The EFORT Executive Committee and the French local organisers are delighted to invite you to participate in the 9th EFORT Congress in Nice from 29 May to 1 June 2008. The congress is being held in close collaboration with SOFCOT. It is also devoted to the memory of Professor Frantz Langlais, who worked so hard up to his tragic sudden death to make this congress possible.

The scientific programme includes symposia and instructional lectures delivered by distinguished speakers from across Europe, free papers, posters, workshops, industry symposia and technical exhibits. We will also be holding ExMEx (Expert Meets Expert) sessions for the first time here in Nice. We have broadened our collaboration with specialist organisations for the scientific programme, and French organisations, in particular, will also be attending, emphasising our collaboration with SOFCOT on the Nice congress. Along with the exhibition, this congress format will cover the full range of contemporary orthopaedics and traumatology in Europe.

The congress will take place at the well-known and centrally located Acropolis Convention Centre in Nice. This is an excellent venue to exchange scientific facts, share experience and build awareness of future trends. Nice is also a lovely combination of pleasant climate and a university city.

On behalf of EFORT, and also personally, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Professor Thierry Bégué, to our colleagues on the Local Organising Committee, as well as of all SOFCOT. Special thanks to the Chairman of the Scientific Committee, Professor Pierre Hoffmeier, who with the committee members has worked hard on the programme. Thanks also to the entire staff of the congress organiser, OIC, and of the central EFFORT office in Zurich for their hard work and devotion. It is a great pleasure to see all you congress participants here in Nice!
