This joint initiative from UEMS and EFORT in education result in a high-quality European Examination for Orthopaedics and Traumatology Surgeons in Europe and beyond.

The EBOT Exam consists in a two-part examination: a written exam held in the different examination centres in Europe and as proctored online exam and a presential oral exam.

As per 2025, EBOT proposes its oral examination in four different languages thanks to its close cooperation with the national orthopaedic societies.

The last EBOT oral exam of the year was the oral exam in Spanish organised in Madrid on 22 and 23 November 2025. Thanks to the outstanding work of EFORT member society SECOT, this oral examination was a success. We would like to congratulate the successful candidates who have joined the network of Fellows of the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

Multiannual Financial Framework - now is the time to call for appropriate funding in Health and Research

The European Commission has recently presented its proposals for the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) from 2028-2034 which includes an ambitious overall budget, a new Horizon Europe (FP10) and a mix of bottom-up and top-down instruments.

The proposal includes a restructuring of existing elements, including of health and research related funding. BioMed Alliance (35 medical & research societies) and 18 other civil society organisations representing patients, ERNs, healthcare professionals and the wider health community call on policy makers to

ensure that the next multiannual EU budget will be fit-for-purpose to address current and future health threats. They ask the Commission, the Council and the Parliament to ensure strong, ringfenced health funding in a dedicated cluster or window, and to ensure that patient needs will be met.

IMPACT OF MDR IN ORTHOPAEDICS

EFORT Survey: Assessing the Impact of MDR on Orthopaedic Implants

Since the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR) came into effect in May 2021, its objective has been to enhance patient safety through stronger clinical evidence.

However, its implementation may have also led to the withdrawal of certain Class III orthopaedic implants from the market.

As the European umbrella organization for Orthopaedics and Traumatology, EFORT holds key positions within EU regulatory bodies, including the Medical Device Coordination Group (MDCG) at DG SANTE and the Expert Panels at EMA.

To ensure that the voice of the orthopaedic community is heard in these discussions, we are again conducting an MDR-related survey to assess the real-world impact of MDR on implant availability.

We invite you to participate in this important survey, which will take no more than 15 minutes to complete. Your insights will help us advocate for solutions that support both innovation and patient care.
