The EBOT Interim Exam:
The perfect pathway to the Written Exam

The EBOT Exam is a two-parts exam consisting in a written and an oral part. In order to prepare the written exam, the EBOT introduced the interim exam which mirrors the EBOT part I exam.

It consists in a series of 100 MCQs covering a wide variety of Orthopaedics and Traumatology issues.

The Interim exam relies on a network of European hospitals registering to supervise the candidates sitting this exam in their hospital. It is open only to candidates from hospitals in Europe.

Candidates willing to evaluate their readiness for the EBOT part I should register on https://ebotexam.examfolio.com and select their hospital in the list of supervising centres.

Should their hospital not be listed, the chair of the centre should apply to be a registered centre.

EFORT EU ACTIVITIES UPDATES

A Brussels Update: How EU Legislation is Shaping The European Orthopaedic Practice

While Brussels can feel far from daily practice in Orthopaedic and Traumatology, current legislative shifts are directly impacting the availability of devices and the future of surgical innovation.

EFORT is actively engaging in these discussions to ensure the voice of orthopaedic surgeons is heard.

Key 2026 Policy Watch:

  • EU Biotech Act: Proposed in December 2025 to accelerate clinical trials and boost bio-manufacturing for advanced therapies (ATMPs).
  • MDR Simplification: A new proposal aims to reduce administrative burdens and costs for medical devices while maintaining safety standards.
  • Pharma Package: A landmark agreement reached in December 2025 provides 8 years of data exclusivity and new incentives for unmet medical needs.
  • Digital Omnibus: Recent updates to GDPR and the AI Act aim to reduce red tape but raise questions about data-sharing barriers in research.

BIOMEDICAL ALLIANCE IN EUROPE

Digital Fitness Check: Have Your Say on EU Tech Laws

The European Commission has launched a comprehensive "Fitness Check" to assess how the EU’s digital rules—including AI, data, and cybersecurity—function together in practice. The goal is to simplify the digital rulebook and ensure it supports innovation without unnecessary complexity.

The Fitness Check will analyse the interplay and cumulative impact of the EU’s major digital laws, including those on data, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, e-privacy, platforms and digital markets.

Its purpose is to determine whether the overall framework remains effective, proportionate and fit for the future, and whether any simplification or streamlining may be needed.

The public consultation is open until 11 March 2026.

IMPACT OF MDR IN ORTHOPAEDICS

EFORT Survey: Assessing the Impact of MDR on Orthopaedic Implants

Since the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR) came into effect in May 2021, its objective has been to enhance patient safety through stronger clinical evidence.

However, its implementation may have also led to the withdrawal of certain Class III orthopaedic implants from the market.

As the European umbrella organization for Orthopaedics and Traumatology, EFORT holds key positions within EU regulatory bodies, including the Medical Device Coordination Group (MDCG) at DG SANTE and the Expert Panels at EMA.

To ensure that the voice of the orthopaedic community is heard in these discussions, we are again conducting an MDR-related survey to assess the real-world impact of MDR on implant availability.

We invite you to participate in this important survey, which will take no more than 15 minutes to complete. Your insights will help us advocate for solutions that support both innovation and patient care.
