Looking Ahead to Athens 2027:
Bring Your Research to Europe’s Largest Orthopaedic Stage

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

As we look toward the EFORT Annual Congress 2027 in historic Athens, Greece (19–21 May 2027), which main theme is: EFORT is IMPACT—Innovating Musculoskeletal Practice – Advancing Clinical ouTcome, we invite you to share your clinical outcomes and research with our global community.

The true strength of our scientific programme lies in your work—whether you are presenting a large multicentre trial or an innovative clinical technique or basic reseach.

Submitting your abstract to EFORT gives your research international exposure, connects you with key opinion leaders, and opens doors to global academic collaboration.

Mark your calendars: our abstract submission portal officially opens on 15 September 2026 and will close on 17 November 2026.

High-quality submissions take time to refine, so we encourage you to coordinate with your co-authors and gather your data today.

Join us in shaping the future of orthopaedics and traumatology—we look forward to receiving your submissions!

Best regards,

EFORT WEBINAR | MONDAY 31 AUGUST 2026 | 19:00 CEST

How is Artificial Intelligence reshaping the daily reality of Orthopaedics and Traumatology?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a futuristic concept—it is actively transforming clinical decision-making, surgical workflows, and data-driven orthopaedic research. As part of our ongoing Digitalisation and AI in Orthopaedics & Traumatology series, this specialised webinar bridges the gap between complex technological theory and practical, real-world application.

The objectives of this Webinar, organised by the Basic Research Working Group of EFORT's Education Committee, are:

  • Evaluate the Clinical Utility of AI in Trauma: Understand how AI algorithms are currently being applied to enhance diagnosis, fracture classification, and predictive outcome modelling in orthopaedic trauma.
  • Analyse European Digitalisation Trends: Synthesize the latest regulatory, technological, and strategic insights emerging from the OTdigital 2026 congress to anticipate the next wave of healthcare technology adoption in Europe.
  • Appraise the Human vs. Machine Paradigm: Critically assess the evolving relationship between algorithmic automation and surgical human expertise, identifying how AI acts as an augmentation tool rather than a replacement for clinical judgment.
  • Engage in Translational Dialogue: Formulate strategies to effectively bridge technological AI applications from bench to bedside, fostering collaboration between engineering researchers and frontline orthopaedic clinicians.

This Webinar is organised by EFORT independent of any commercial educational support.

THE EBOT EXAM CAMPAIGN 2026

This joint initiative from UEMS and EFORT in education result in a high-quality European Examination for Orthopaedics and Traumatology Surgeons in Europe and beyond.

The EBOT Exam consists in a two-part examination: a written exam held in the different examination centres in Europe and as proctored online exam and a presential oral exam.

EBOT Exam Part II - Oral Exams

The annual EBOT oral exam will be held on the weekend of 19 to 29 September 2026 in Madrid, Spain.

As candidates know, the exam consists of five interviews with two examiners in which candidates respond to real-case scenarios of the sections proposed by EBOT: Spine, Upper Limb, Lower Limb, Basic Science and Paediatrics.

Successful candidates will receive a Fellow of the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology certificate.

While many of the successful candidates from the written exam in English and other eligible applicants will be heading to Madrid, Spain, others will move on to take their oral exam, this time in their native languages, directly with one of the National Societies that organise national exams:

  • SORBCOT (EBOT-FR in French, 12 June 2026, Brussels, Belgium),
  • TOTBID (EBOT-TK in Turkish, 23-25 October 2026, Istanbul, Türkiye),
  • EEXOT (EBOT-GR in Greek, 07-08 November 2026, Athens, Greece), and
  • SECOT (EBOT-ES in Spanish, 21-22 November 2026, Madrid, Spain).

Get ready, stay focused, and happy studying!
