Salvage of Ankle Fractures - How Far Can We Go?

This EFORT Educational Webinar, organised by the Orthopaedics Education Group (OEG) of the EFORT Education Committee, will focus on Ankle Fracture Sequelae.

When an ankle fracture heals with complications, clinicians face a complex choice: reconstructive joint preservation (salvage) or joint-sacrificing procedures (like arthrodesis or arthroplasty). This webinar focuses heavily on joint preservation by systematically dismantling the three main drivers of poor functional outcomes: stiffness, osteochondral lesions, and malunions.

The learning objectives of this Webinar are:

  • Understand the key principles and current strategies for salvaging ankle fractures, including when to pursue reconstruction versus further corrective procedures.

  • Identify and manage the main causes of poor outcome after ankle fracture treatment, with emphasis on postoperative stiffness, osteochondral lesions, and malunion.

  • Apply practical decision-making frameworks to optimise patient selection, timing, and technique in complex ankle fracture salvage scenarios.

This Webinar is organised by EFORT independent of any commercial educational support.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has published its final Data Quality Framework for Real-World Data (RW-DQF)

Designed to support the 2025–2028 network workplan, this framework provides practical guidance and standardised metrics to evaluate the reliability and "fitness-for-use" of real-world data (RWD) in regulatory decisions.

By harmonizsing how data processes and systems are assessed, the RW-DQF ensures greater transparency and consistency for real-world evidence (RWE) across the EU medicines regulation network.
