EFORT Today May 2026 | EDITORIAL: Looking Ahead: From Málaga Success to EFORT 2027 in Athens!

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Following our highly successful congress in Málaga earlier this month, shows EFORT is firmly on track. Not only showing that our congress is a landmark event with presentations and debates across a wide diversity of topics relating to European Orthopaedics & Traumatology (O&T), attracting world-renowned experts, but also by well attended workhshops by industry.

Supported by O&T industry leaders—including Arthrex, Becton Dickinson, Stryker, AdVita Ortho, Enovis, Philips, and Implantcast among others, but also newcomers from China (AK Medical, Canwell, Chingqing Xishan Science, Forerunner Medical, WEGO, Mindray, Snytec, Xi’an Sailong and ZKSK Technology) and Korea (CG Bio, IMEDICON and TDM) — . Furthermore we had interesting discussion during the Breakfast Meetings with CEO’s, as well as during the MDR workshop organised with Industry on the impact of the MDR and how to bring this topic forward to regulators showed how we as O&T community can work together for even better Innovation and safety for our patients!

We are now excited to invite you to the 28th EFORT Annual Congress in Athens, Greece, from 19 to 21 May 2027, under the compelling theme: “EFORT is IMPACT: Innovating Musculoskeletal Practice – Advancing Clinical ouTcome.”

What better place to come together than the birthplace of European dialogue and philosophy? Inspired by the great Greek thinkers who stimulated debate, we want to spark lively discussions and critical appraisals of ideas among experienced surgeons, young colleagues, researchers, and fellow health professionals alike. Through this vibrant dialogue, we co-create innovative solutions aimed at directly improving outcomes for our patients.

While innovation is essential, demonstrating clinical evidence of performance and patient safety remains crucial. The IMPACT of EFORT goes well beyond our annual congress and webinars. As your O&T umbrella organisation, we actively represent your interests through European Commission activities—including Expert Panels under the Medical Device Regulation (MDR) and the EBOT exam—as well as by opening doors to research grants, ensuring your voice is heard where it matters most.

Come join us in Athens. Be curious, challenge your ideas, and refine your skills for the ultimate benefit of your patients.

See you in Athens!
