EBOT, the European Board Exam

The Interim Exam 2022

The EBOT Interim Exam is an annual assessment for all European Orthopaedic trainees. It gathers information at European level, handed over to both trainees and heads of training, regarding not only the performance of the different residents but also detailed data on how they have been doing in the five different areas assessed at the final EBOT Exam.

For the last few years, the interim exam gathers around 1000 participants annually from almost 20 European countries in more than 160 hospitals.

It is conducted once a year, usually at the end of March.

Any interested hospitals can register and participate for free.

The EBOT Final Exam 2022

The EBOT Final Exam consists of two parts, section I the written part and section II the oral part.

  • The written part of the EBOT final exam is to be completed online and consists of 100 multiple-choice questions. The exam is held in different examination centers in Europe and can in the future also be done as fully proctored online exam, which candidates can take from home or any location they like.
  • The oral examination consists of five sessions that last 30 minutes each and will test candidates in the subjects of spine, lower limb, upper limb, children’s orthopaedics and basic science related to orthopaedics.

The written part of the 2022 final exam took place on 29 June; successful candidates of this part I are moving on to section II, the oral section, which is divided into the oral part in English, and the one in Spanish for Spanish candidates only.

  • Section II in English in 2022 will take place in Lisbon, Portugal on 01 and 02 October 2022; we expect around 130 candidates to sit the oral part in English this year.
  • Section II in Spanish is organised in Madrid, Spain on 19 and 20 November 2022, in conjunction with SECOT, the Spanish Society for Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

Application for the final exam usually opens in December. Interested candidates will then find more information about the 2023 edition and be able to submit their application documents online
