24th EFORT annual Congress

Specialty societies sessions at the EFORT Congress:

Meet your peers who share the interest of your specialty!

We have always considered collaboration as key and we believe that in future it will be crucially important while we walk our way to adapted formats of face-to-face meetings.

As the largest cross-border meeting in Europe, we want to create a learning environment based on exchange and crosstalk among the multidisciplinary of Orthopaedics & Traumatology specialties.

Teaming up with specialty societies provides another perspective of O&T topics with curated sessions from societies proposing either an approach covering special interest groups, or highlighting the transversality within O&T or even focusing on a topic of its own in alignment with the respective core subspecialty.

With this 3-fold segmentation we hope to give the delegate appetite to navigate through the programme and choose sessions from another angle, with the objective to enhance the journey of your continuing medical education as well as your professional development.

First confirmed sessions by our partnering specialty societies have come in and we have selected 3 of them illustrating:

Stem Cells And Regenerative Therapies by ESTROT, the European Society of Tissue Regeneration in Orthopaedics and Traumatology, and

Personalised Implants in Orthopaedic Joint Replacement – Novel Technologies and Treatment Options by EORS, the European Orthopaedic Research Society

New Management Concepts In The Field Of Fracture- Related Infection by EBJIS, the European Bone & Joint Infection Society

The Degenerative Elbow by SECEC, the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow

Bridging networking with knowledge

As announced previously, EFORT will launch its first ever EFORT Marketplace during this year’s Annual Congress in Vienna.

Designed as a new hub to network and open to all congress participants, the EFORT Marketplace is flanked on both sides by the poster area or when networking is bridged with knowledge! Set up as a theatre, with tiered bench seats for a capacity 60 people the structure includes three round tables and a big screen.

Today we are focusing on the Research Café activity.

Søren Overgaard, chair of the Science Committee has been challenged on several occasions about a Research Café. What motivated him to pursue and create such an initiative?

He says “We are always discussing clinical cases and studies in sessions & symposia. But are we looking into how to structure research work? If this part is neglected, we will not be able to design studies that can answer important questions.

This is needed for the validation and development of new treatments. This is what I mean by strengthening the research culture for the benefit of the patients and the surgeon”.

So how will this work? This new concept will offer selected participants an exchange on the topic “Research” with EFORT experts and industry representatives simultaneously.

Set up as round table discussions, each table will discuss the following topics:

  • Table 1 – Research question & Choice of outcome
  • Table 2 – Planning and coordination of the study & Reporting a trial
  • Table 3 – The research protocol & Ethical issues

Delegates will rotate through each of the 3 tables. This first part allows for confidential and intimate discussion.

In a second stage, and after each participant will have had the opportunity to discuss the 3 topics, table moderators will quickly collect thoughts & recommendations before engaging the discussion to an open audience.

Book your seat now when you register for the Congress.

Runs daily from 12:45 to 14:45. Table topics remain the same throughout the congress days. Table participants upon invitation only.

CORE-MD

Post-Market Surveillance tool

The CORE-MD Project Tool offers a strategy for aggregating information from notices of failures to support Postmarket surveillance activities.

The recent scientific article “Validation of CORE-MD PMS Support Tool: A Novel Strategy for Aggregating Information from Notices of Failures to Support Medical Devices’ Post-Market Surveillance” discusses the validation of a support tool called CORE-MD PMS.

The tool is designed to aggregate public information from national authority websites about notices of failures (NoF) of medical devices (MD) in order to support post-market surveillance (PMS).

The study aimed to validate this tool, developed by the group of Prof. Caiani at Politecnico di Milano, by comparing its results with manual analysis of the same information.
