Salvage of Ankle Fractures - How Far Can We Go?

This EFORT Educational Webinar, organised by the Orthopaedics Education Group (OEG) of the EFORT Education Committee, will focus on Ankle Fracture Sequelae.

When an ankle fracture heals with complications, clinicians face a complex choice: reconstructive joint preservation (salvage) or joint-sacrificing procedures (like arthrodesis or arthroplasty).

This webinar focuses heavily on joint preservation by systematically dismantling the three main drivers of poor functional outcomes: stiffness, osteochondral lesions, and malunions.

This Webinar is organised by EFORT independent of any commercial educational support.

THE EBOT EXAM CAMPAIGN 2026

This joint initiative from UEMS and EFORT in education result in a high-quality European Examination for Orthopaedics and Traumatology Surgeons in Europe and beyond.

The EBOT Exam consists in a two-part examination: a written exam held in the different examination centres in Europe and as proctored online exam and a presential oral exam.

EBOT Exam Update: A Record Turnout & A Second Chance

The EBOT Part I – Written Exam took place last Tuesday, June 2, and a whopping 268 candidates took their shot at it!

Many were successful and will be advancing to the Oral Exam later in the year.

  • What's Next: For those eligible, your official invitation to the Part II – Oral Exam will follow shortly.

For those who weren’t as lucky this time around, EBOT is offering a second chance to sit the written exam. This second-chance exam will take place on Monday 13 July 2026, and we hope to see a full cohort of candidates successfully advancing to the oral boards.

We are sending our best wishes to everyone taking the second written exam in July, and to all candidates preparing for their final oral examinations this autumn!

Looking Ahead: The Part II – Oral Exams

Next up, the International EBOT Part II – Oral Exam in English, will take place on the weekend of 19 and 20 September 2026 in Madrid, Spain.

EFORT EU ADVOCACY

EFORT Advocates for a European NCD Strategy at the European Parliament

On past 23 June 2026, EFORT participated in a high-level European Parliament discussion hosted by MEP Romana Jerković and initiated by EULAR.

Representing EFORT President Prof. Rob Nelissen, EFORT CEO Jean-Baptiste Rouffet addressed the European Parliament assembly to emphasise that the 27,000 Orthopaedic and Traumatology surgeons represented by EFORT manage the severe impacts of musculoskeletal degradation daily.

EFORT called for a coordinated end to traditional "disease silos" inside hospital walls in order to optimise patient outcomes and tackle complex comorbidities.

Unified Digital Labelling: Join the MedTechLabel Stakeholder Webinar

The future of medical technology regulation is digital. How do we create a single, unified specification that serves all categories and classes of medical devices and in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) under EU MDR and IVDR frameworks?

Objectives of  this live session:

  • Introduce the Project: Present our vision for consensus-based digital medical labelling.
  • Explore Practical Use Scenarios: Examine concrete clinical and regulatory use cases that directly benefit from modernised, digitalised data infrastructure.
  • Gather Your Perspectives: Learn about your organisation's unique needs, challenges, and expectations regarding digital labels.
  • Engage with Our Network: Invite you to actively collaborate on defining future standards.

BIOMEDICAL ALLIANCE IN EUROPE

EFORT Reports from Brussels: Balancing Innovation, Safety & Competitiveness at the BioMed Alliance Spring Meeting 2026

Earlier in June, EFORT joined forces with the Biomedical Alliance alongside representatives from the European Commission, EFPIA, MedTech Europe, and the Nordic life science sector to tackle the future of European healthcare.

The main focus? The EU health agenda's critical shift toward boost economic competitiveness, while safely keeping patient health standards locked at the highest tier.

Putting Frontline Doctors at the Center of EU Policy

Per Kjaersgaard Andersen (Chair of the BioMed Alliance Medical Device Task Force and EFORT EU Affairs Committee) drove home a vital point: healthcare professionals must have a strong voice in EU policy-making regarding the Medical Device Regulation (MDR). To guide policymakers, he brought forward two crucial blueprints:

Innovation is Here—Now We Must Scale It

The expert panels made it clear that Europe has no shortage of brilliant medical ideas. The real hurdle is creating the right regulatory conditions to scale them. The meeting pointed to the Nordic ecosystem as a perfect roadmap, proving that trust-based data governance, integrated systems, and close clinical collaborations are the key to a safer, faster medical future.

Stay tuned as we continue advocating for practical, evidence-driven policy changes that protect both our surgeons and our patients!
