Pioneering Digital Surgical Training at EFORT Congress Athens 2027

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

As orthopaedic and traumatology care continues to evolve through technological innovation, the way we engage, train, and benchmark surgical skills must advance alongside it.

At the upcoming 28th EFORT Annual Congress in Athens, Greece (19–21 May 2027), EFORT is proud to introduce a dynamic new congress feature: EFORT Digital Games.

Designed to complement our core scientific program, this initiative brings virtual reality (VR) procedural challenges directly into the exhibition arena. Far from being a mere showcase of technology, the EFORT Digital Games represent an interactive competition designed to bring together Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeons under the share banner of surgical excellence and friendly rivalry in a virtual operating room. Stay tunes more detailed information will be available in the coming edition of EFORT Today.

Last but not least, the 13th Masterclass in Arthroplasty Surgery (MAST Course), taking place from 11 to 13 December 2026 in Thessaloniki, Greece, marks the proud launch of the brand-new "EFORT Education meets..." concept—highlighting EFORT co-organised and endorsed high-level orthopaedic and traumatology courses across Europe, with MAST proudly standing as the very first course in this prestigious series. Join leading international faculty to explore advanced hip and knee reconstruction, complex revision strategies, and cutting-edge surgical precision designed to elevate long-term patient outcomes.

Best regards,

THE EBOT EXAM CAMPAIGN 2026

This joint initiative from UEMS and EFORT in education result in a high-quality European Examination for Orthopaedics and Traumatology Surgeons in Europe and beyond.

The EBOT Exam consists in a two-part examination: a written exam held in the different examination centres in Europe and as proctored online exam and a presential oral exam.

EBOT Exam Part II - Oral Exams

The annual EBOT oral exam in English took place on the weekend of 19 to 20 September 2026 in Madrid, Spain.

The exam consisted of five interviews with two examiners each time, in which candidates respond to real-case scenarios of the sections proposed by EBOT: Spine, Upper Limb, Lower Limb, Basic Science and Paediatrics.

With a success rate of 62%, we congratulate all new FEBOT - Fellows of the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

While candidates for the EBOT oral exam in English were in Madrid, Spain, done for this year, others will now move on to take their oral exam in their native languages, directly with one of the National Societies that organise EBOT oral national exams, these are:

  • TOTBID (EBOT-TK in Turkish, 23-25 October 2026, Istanbul, Türkiye),
  • EEXOT (EBOT-GR in Greek, 07-08 November 2026, Athens, Greece), and
  • SECOT (EBOT-ES in Spanish, 21-22 November 2026, Madrid, Spain).

Get ready, stay focused, and happy studying!
