A word from the EFORT Board

On behalf of the EFORT Board we are delighted to present today the first version of the new EFORT Newsletter.

Renamed & re-branded its aim is to engage and help keep up to date all O&T surgeons, residents and other healthcare professionals in Europe and beyond. The reflection of the practice of orthopaedics and traumatology in Europe will also give the opportunity to include industry partners and report on collaborative avenues.

As we are getting closer to the implementation of the new medical devices regulations on 26 May 2021, CORE-MD, which stands for Coordinating Research and Evidence for Medical Devices and led by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) is the first formalised group of stakeholders in Europe working together to identify ways to enable the scientific, fair, and systematic evaluation of medical devices.

With the Virtual EFORT Congress VEC^hybrid 2021 coming up in June/July, we recently presented the final programme and invite you to discover its offerings which will be delivered digitally and jazzed up by the Live EFORT TV Studio!

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Survey

The Covid-19 pandemic has increased the awareness of the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE) not only for protecting orthopaedic patients from infections but also staff and surgeon safety.

Recent studies have shown that PPE may cause ergonomical stress, impaired communication and also compromise surgical performance.

In order to expand the knowledge and experiences of how orthopaedic and trauma surgeons perceive PPE in their practice an anonymous baseline survey has been compiled.
