23rd EFORT annual Congress

Meet the Erwin Morscher Honorary Lecturer 2022

With his lecture entitled The Ultimate Knee Injury. From Sports Venues To The Operating Theater! scheduled on Thursday 23 June 2022 during the 23rd EFORT Annual Congress in Lisbon, Lars Engebretsen, MD, PhD - currently Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Oslo University Clinic and Head of Medical Sciences in the International Olympic Committee - will share with the EFORT community his broad knowledge on severe knee injuries and best surgical options to treat them, including resurfacing techniques of cartilage.

Indeed, as a pioneer in sports injury prevention research, Engebretsen has largely worked on injury mechanisms and related risk factors, contributing to set many effective prevention measures for numerous sports and common injury types, such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) ruptures.

Born in Asker, Norway and having completed an orthopaedic education both in Trondheim University Hospital and the University of Minnesota, he has focused his career and won different prices around the world on three main fields: knee ligaments, prevention of injuries and diseases in sports as well as basic research for rehabilitation after surgery which led him in 1997 to be part of the first knee joint chondrocyte transplantation in Norway.

Professor Engebretsen is among the world’s most productive in clinical, epidemiological, and basic science research in the areas of general sports medicine, knee ligaments, cartilage and prevention of sports injuries and illnesses.

Take the opportunity to learn about severe knee injuries prevention and treatment during the Erwin Morscher plenary session scheduled for our upcoming congress in Lisbon. Attendance to this Honorary Lecture is included in the full-congress registration.
