23rd EFORT annual Congress

Debate Forum:

Too Young Or Too Old for THA?

“Ageing Population” as one of this year’s programme highlights, proposes dedicated sessions to describe what makes active and healthy ageing a societal challenge. From the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing we know that the European population is ageing rapidly.

The number of Europeans aged over 65 will double in the next 50 years, and the number of over 80 years old will almost triple. Life expectancy will continue to increase, yet unhealthy life years make up around 20% of a person's life. (Source)

But in advancing the mission to restore & secure mobility and especially the overall the quality of life we see, on the other hand, also younger people undergoing replacement surgery. So, between the elder and younger generation where lies the balance when it comes to indications & limitations to perform surgery?

The Debate Forum Do We Have Any Age Limit For Primary THA ? Too Young Or Too Old? moderated by Professor Theofilos Karachalios on Thursday 23 June at 08:00 CET will lift and address some its secret!

Find all the Debate Fora session details to take place during the EFORT Congress 2022 in Lisbon, Portugal, from 22 to 24 June 2022 in the Advanced Scientific Programme.

Medical Devices Regulations:

Impact on your practice

An EFORT Survey to inform our response to regulatory bodies

Dear colleague,

During the last months we were notified that there were issues with the availability of certain medical devices since the MDR (medical device regulation) was put into force in May 2021 (e.g. no availability of low-volume products like snap-fit cups, some tumor implants, plates etc).

In order to have a better overview not only within the EU, but also in the rest of Europe of this (potential) problem for our patients and to discuss this with EU regulators, it is important to collect data.

In line with EFORT’s advocacy work for European healthcare and policies, we are coordinating a survey on the effect of the MDR on both elective orthopaedic and trauma surgical interventions.

The survey takes approx. 10 minutes to complete, and we would be grateful if you would help us by taking this survey.

We thank you for your collaboration.

Best wishes,

Prof. Rob Nelissen • Prof. Dr. Li Felländer Tsai • Prof. Dr. Klaus-Peter Günther
