Dear Orthopaedic and Trauma community,
The last few years the Board handled some challenges since the covid-years to revitalise EFORT, with positive results!
We refocused our activities on four pillars:
- Science: through its annual Scientific Congress.
- Education: through the EFORT Educational Webinars and the EBOT Exam.
- Research: through its peer-review journal, scientific networks and EU grants.
- European Affairs: through its proactive involvement in EU commissions.
At the upcoming 27th EFORT Annual Congress Málaga 2026, EFORT will be introducing several innovations to encourage more interaction with our National Societies and to maximise the engagement with young orthopaedic surgeons. For example, dedicated sessions will feature young speakers, moderators will be both young and more senior.
At the same time, providing the highest quality of education through renowned speakers and offer industry the opportunity to present high-level symposia, a traditional and well-loved feature of the EFORT Congress.
The EFORT Educational Webinars offer a unique opportunity to get the state-of-the-art education in our field from top Orthopaedic, Trauma and Research experts. In 2025, EFORT webinars counted more than 7000 views with participants from all over the world.
The EBOT Exam, a joint undertaking of EFORT and UEMS, propose an European assessment of knowledge and skills in Orthopaedics and Traumatology. It attracts a growing number of candidates from Europe and beyond. Over 1000 candidates took the Interim Exam in 2025.
EFORT Open Reviews is the peer-review journal of EFORT that promotes Science in our field, its impact factor reaches 4, thus competing with the top in our field.
In Brussels, EFORT is involved in many ways. It contributes to the ongoing discussion on amendments of the MDR (medical device regulation) directly and through the Biomedical Alliance, the Commission’s Medical Device Coordination Group and the EMA’s expert panels. Many EFORT members are acting as experts for the European institutions.
EFORT is back on track and eager to foster Science, Research and Education at the European level.
With best regards,
