Dear Participants,The Executive Committee of EFORT, the British Orthopaedic Association and the local organising Committee would like to invite you to attend the 15th EFORT Congress in London in June 2014. We are delighted to announce that for the second occasion in the maturation of EFORT this will be a combined meeting with a National Society, in this instance the British Orthopaedic Association. This prestigious Association founded in 1918 is one of the oldest in the world and has a strong history in education and research in the field of trauma and musculo-skeletal surgery. The EFORT education committee chaired by Enric Caceres with on-going support from the Specialist Societies have created an exceptional programme covering differing topics from basic research to areas within daily practice of orthopaedics and trauma. Unique to this meeting will be the incorporation of the BOA’s own cyclical education programme which will also be open to participants. The theme of the meeting as a whole is patient safety which becomes the motto for London 2014.

The format of the meeting will again hopefully encourage interaction between participants both with symposia and instructional lectures being delivered by distinguished speakers from all over Europe. Other sessions will include Interactive Expert Exchanges, Complex Case Discussions and Debate Forums together with the newly introduced and successful sessions founded on Evidence Based Medicine. We are also delighted that we will be joined at this Congress by a delegation from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons who will be able to add further to the scientific contribution.

Increasing involvement of the various Specialist Societies has allowed their inclusion into the Congress as a whole. During the three day Congress the Specialist Societies will organise their own sessions which will allow the congress participants, if they choose to attend, regionally focused sessions of a high scientific nature. The trainee may also be attracted to the on-going Comprehensive Review Course which will give a basic oversight to the orthopaedic syllabus.

As usual there will be the Mike Freeman and Erwin Morscher Honorary lectures which will be delivered by two highly distinguished orthopaedic surgeons. The Plenary lectures of the BOA will also be included in the programme and will be open to all participants.

It is hoped that the support of Industry will be more prominent than in previous years and Industry symposia workshops and technical exhibits will form an important segment of the congress as a whole. London is perhaps regarded as one of the most exciting cities in the world. It is a multi-ethnic vibrant centre which will excite every visitor. We hope that you will consider not only your attendance but also your participation in providing and submitting free papers the presentation of which will still form a large proportion of the overall meeting. It is a wonderful opportunity for both consultant and trainee alike.

We all look forward to seeing you join us for the 15th EFORT Congress.
